Meet Our Engineering Heroes
Our “Engineering Heroes” film showcases four remarkable individuals who have shaped the landscape of British engineering over the past decades. Let’s meet these inspiring veterans:
David Pittaway (69, Shrewsbury)
David’s journey in engineering began with a manufacturing apprenticeship at GKN, specialising in welding and fabrication. He later worked for Burnett & Lewis, crafting ‘Humi Drives’. David’s passion for his craft eventually led him into education, where he shared his expertise by delivering teaching sessions on welding and fabrication
Tony Gould (86, Shrewsbury)
Tony’s illustrious career in the Aerospace section of Rolls-Royce is a testament to perseverance and skill. Starting as a sheet metal worker, Tony worked his way up to become a senior production engineer, contributing to some of the most advanced aerospace technologies of his time
Ed Gaskill (90, Whitchurch)
Ed’s engineering journey began with the Royal Navy, where he spent 15 years as a marine engineer. His expertise later led him to work with companies supplying refrigeration systems for navy ships, showcasing the diverse applications of engineering skills
Terry Spruce (80, Whixhall)
Terry’s career as an RAF avionics engineer saw him working on the flight instrumentation of Canberra and Vulcan aircraft. He later transitioned to British Aerospace, where he worked on helicopters at RAF Shawbury. Terry’s experience spans the evolution of aircraft technology, including the digitalisation of instrumentation with the Titan 4000 computer.
